The Intellectual Capital of the Future

Yesterday I took my dad to see The Avengers. I really enjoyed it because my dad obviously loved the movie (based upon his reactions). While the credits were rolling, I leaned over and asked him, “You read all of these comics growing up, right?” His response got me thinking, “I was more into DC Comics, but yeah, all of these were conceived in my childhood.”

If the majority of what we are currently milking for entertainment and profit is a product of the past, what intellection capital is being created today for the sake of future generations?

Is more time spent in the creation of short-term gains, rather than creating a pantheon of characters or a galaxy far, far away?
